introduction

A typical scene of Cheltenham funCheltenham, an elegant Regency town in the heart of the Cotswolds, offers so much more than pretty gardens, stylish buildings, fast horses and statues of naked beasts.

Cheltenham has now become established as the fun capital of the British Isles, thanks to its many exciting attractions including action packed supermarkets, entertaining drunks, overly expensive restaurants, nightclubs crammed with under-age fun-seeking youths, spacious car-parks, big shops, and an appearance or two from celebrities including Olympic hero Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards and blonde TV supremo Kate Thornton. Oh, and it's also home to the Government's GCHQ spy base thing. And it was Gustav Holst's birthplace. Wowza!

Cheltenham is home of The Robins as this person proudly displaysThe aim of 'the pockett guide to: CHELTENHAM' is to promote the multitude of attractions within the Town and I, Mr Pockett (hence the name of the site, clever isn't it!) will be providing an on-line review of everything that is worth doing (and a few things that aren't). And just to show what a kind and caring bloke I am (not to mention lazy) I'm also allowing the general public to send in their own reviews - you can't get fairer than that can you.

By following the links on the left of your computer monitor you will be able to visit the review sections.  You can read areas dedicated to Cheltenham festivals, clubs, pubs located in the town centre and out of town, restaurants, shops, other attractions, and the local football club.  As I am quite lazy, you will find that the sections are not yet fully complete. Yes, the site does lack some content, but then so does Beechwood Shopping Centre and thousands of people still visit it so come on in (unlike MVC, you don't need to register to gain the full benefits of a visit). It is my intention to make regular updates (yeah, right!) so bookmark this page and check back on a regular basis (or else).

I have had to take my "Submit Your Own Review Of Cheltenham" and "Give Your Comments Of This Website" forms offline for technical reasons beyond my control, but don't fear, if you want to submit a review, you can use the good old trusty email (just don't attach any nasty virus things) by writing to ThePockettGuide@Cheltenham.uk.com. Please don't expect an immediate reply though as I will probably be far too busy enjoying myself in my lovely town.

If simply reading about Cheltenham just isn't enough for you then come pay the town a visit to take full advantage of all the rib-tickling, belly-aching, fun-filled activities it has to offer. You can book tickets for trains to Cheltenham by visiting www.TheTrainLine.com, if this is your preferred method of travel you can gasp in amazement when you arrive at how run-down and crumbly our Railway Station is. Of course, you may even opt to travel by coach, in which case you can book tickets at www.GoByCoach.com. As I understand it, you should take the National Express if your life's in a mess as it will make you smile. I'm not totally sure which part of the journey will have you smiling but would imagine it is somehow related to our large central bus depot (not as impressive anymore since the graffiti covered concrete coverings were bulldozed). Cheltenham is blessed with lovely roads, paths and cycle lanes providing easy access from all parts of the UK. For example, Londonium is just a short walk away, whilst visitors from the capital of Scotland, Aberdeen, can take full advantage of the UK's cycle path system. Visist www.StreetMap.com to plan your own visit to Cheltenham.

SORT OF COMPETITION THING

For those of you that are interested, I am pictured on this introduction page. I will leave it for you to work out which one I am, the only clue I am going to provide is this...... I have a yellow jacket and support The Robins, aka Cheltenham Town FC. Worked it out? Tough isn't it, especially as the pictured yellow jacket has the initials "PO" which could stand for "POCKETT". If you think you know which one I am, send me an email with the reasoning behind your choice. I may consider offering a prize to the wittiest reply, but please, no entries from my family, friends, flatmate or members of Gloucestershire Constabulary.

THE BIT OF ADVERTISING YOU GET ON ALL SITES:
The National Hunt Festival is, quite probably, the most exciting festival in the world that involves horses, Guinness, and wodges of fifty quid notes. Why not go to Amazon and purchase yourselves some books relating to this 'Sport Of Kings'?
