THE BEST FOOTIE TEAM THIS SIDE OF THE GOLDEN VALLEY

Even the football is fun, just look at our goalkeeperCheltenham Town Football Club, The Robins, Chelt'num, Stevie Cotterill's Graham Allner's Red & White Army, call them what you will, this is definitely the best football team in Cheltenham and maybe even the best team to begin with the letter 'C'.

Taxi! Trip to Stoke please, you manger. Oi'd like to stop off an' get a new tracksuit on the way.Recent events have been the most important in the clubs long history. Promotion back into the Football Conference was secured in the 1996/1997 season and the 1997/1998 term witnessed one of the best seasons for many Cheltenham fans. The club achieved second place in the Conference, reached the 3rd Round of the FA Cup, and most importantly, had a trip to Londinium where, at the crumbly Wembley stadium, they won the FA Trophy.

And as if that wasn't enough, 1998/99 was even better. Thanks to a 90th minute winner (well, 97th minute then) against Yeovil Town on Thursday 22nd April, The Robins gained a well deserved promotion into the Third Division of the Football League - wayhey! Oh, they also made it to the semi-final of the FA Trophy that season but I think it's best that we don't mention the result!

And, yes, you guessed it, things still managed to get better. After two seasons of finding their feet in the big bad world of Third Division footie, their third season saw them take a trip down to Cardiff where they defeated the evil Ru$hden Anne Diamond$ at the magnificent Millennium Stadium and, as a result, will start the 2002/2003 season in the Second Division of the Football League. Wowza. Quite unbelievable considering it's not too long ago they were playing the likes of Bashley, Waterloovile, Hastings and, oh yeah, some team called Gloucester (this, by the way, is a stinking city not too far from Cheltenham - without being too disrespectful to the maggot infested filth-hole, let's just say, if you get mugged in Cheltenham, have your wallet stolen in Cheltenham, or are spoken to in a rude way in Cheltenham, chances are it's a Gloucester opportunist who has penetrated the Golden Valley defences and is roaming free throughout our town).

Oh, back to the football, did I mention that our local footballing hero Steve Cotterill left us to go to Stoke City?

CHELTENHAM TOWN ON THE WEB

Pay a visit to the offical Cheltenham Town FC websiteIn the run-up to the Wembley appearance in May 1998 a large number of web sites suddenly appeared. However, not many seem to have withstood the test of time, and to save having to constantly update old links, you would be better served by simply bookmarking the address for the club's official site, which you can access by clicking here. Just a shame that, at the time of writing, it is so full of stupid annoying pop-ups and totally plastered with advertising that really shouldn't be so prominent on an information / editorial website. Go to Amazon.co.uk if you agree.

PROVIDE YOUR OWN REVIEW

Judging by the comments that can be found on the discussion forums of the Cheltenham Town sites, I've decided not to request reviews of Cheltenham Town Football Club to save my delicate eyes from being damaged by filthy language. If you want to talk about The Robins then please click the image below to visit their discussion forum - a word of warning though, things can get pretty lively!
